- Useful Things
I run workshops for adults that have at their core giving people the time and the space to get in touch with their inner creativity! During a workshop I give loads of enthusiastic encouragement and one to one guidance to encourage each person to really express themselves and make something beautiful to take home and treasure.
Paper cutting is a wonderful art to learn and master. Time seems to disappear as the more you cut away from the surface, the more you see the image revealed and on it goes until the whole is present.
It's great for relaxation and mindfulness as it’s totally absorbing. Its time to unplug from the outside world and focus on something smaller. Its very addictive! It’s also great for hand eye co-ordination so really helps with extending drawing skills and composition skills. It's easy to start as you don’t need lots of expensive equipment to get started or need a large area to work in. All you need is table space per person of about 2-3”, good light, a sturdy work surface, cutting board, a craft knife or scissors and good paper. It’s very clean too so no messy paints to juggle are you are tight for space.
Workshop lengths: I run workshops for adults that are half, full day or evening workshops
In a half day or evening workshop you will get the chance to work from a specially designed template for that event that will be customisable so you can really make it your own. I bring along original collages for you to see up close, and talk you through where the inspiration comes from by looking at my sketchbooks. There is always plenty of wonderful richly coloured paper to use too and take home to continue your paper cut art. Some workshops have a mini kit included in the ticket price too.
A full day workshop give a lot more time to learn more in depth about paper cutting techniques and designing for paper cutting and collage. You will start with a small template to work with, but go on to spend most of the day working on a much more individual, uniquely designed piece that will look fabulous and be ready to frame straight away. A full day also means you will get to learn a lot more about papers, glues, and other equipment to use as well as much more information about other contemporary paper artists work too.
